#ROARonTOUR took to Gloucester this week as seven u10’s represented Herefordshire in the latest Glozball basketball CVL.
With teams from Worcester Bears, Gloucester Saxons and Bristol Flyers Girls, the afternoon was going to be a challenge.
With a number of players unavailable to play it was a great opportunity for new players to get their first taste of a basketball match. It can be a daunting experience to walk into a Glozball tournament, especially when you haven’t been on a basketball court before. All three of the new players from Fownhope, Rory and Courtney from yr 4 and Alex from yr 5 played well, improving through the day. Alex capped his debut with 6 points.
For the regulars it was all change with only Bodhi and Evie having played in the pre season match with Flyers. James and Oskaras joined them to make an experienced 4. All five yr 5’s scored!
The first match with Worcester Bears was the main event for ROAR. Previously having been beaten 26-0 last January, it was a test to see how much ROAR had improved especially with such an inexperienced squad. To lose 20-18 was a huge result for Herefordshire basketball.
The match with Saxons was settled with a golden basket from Saxons giving Saxons the win 18-16. Bristol Flyers Girls was an opportunity for the less experienced of both teams to get valuable court time – great to see the players improving so much, even through the day and it was played with fantastic spirit.
Just 2 weeks to go before the first Southwest Regional Tournament for a Herefordshire basketball team when ROAR take on Bristol Flyers and Dorset Storm at Gloucester College on 28th October.
